"Paradis"
May 2020
To take this photo I am stood in what was the first rice field when we took over the house. The retaining bank was removed and this has helpted to drain the field although it did still flood during the last rainy season. We will have to wait and see if it still floods this year!
Original Floor Plan
When we took over "Paradis" this was the floor plan. There were four bedrooms. The master bedroom had a washroom ensuite and there was another washroom for the other three bedrooms. I call them washrooms as to refer to them as bathrooms would be misleading, you will see why when you look further into the website and view the photos there.
Bedroom No. 4 was actually a junk room. Bedroom 3 was for the children and Bedroom 2 was for Mother-in-Law.
We have lost two bedrooms to other uses so we now have the Master Bedroom with en-suite and a smaller bedroom also with en-suite.
New Floor Plan
Our new design or re-model as some like to call it, resulted in the Master Bedroom being about 40% of the house. We removed the walls between the two washrooms, Bed 4 and the Master Bedroom. Old bed 4 was now our bathroom and the washrooms were incorporated into the Master Bedroom itself, there is no door between the bathroom and the bedroom. We also removed half of the outside wall to allow a three metre sliding glass door to be incorporated into the design, this allows us to lie in bed and be able to look right down the garden, it also makes the bedroom feel large and airy.
Kitchen in 2019
The kitchen as it was when we moved in. The walls needed two more rows of blocks plus the ring-beam then a roof. The walls were the rendered inside and out and a ceiling installed with lighting. New back door was made on site and we used the lock mechanism from the door removed from Bed 4. The whole house had hotel style door locks with keys. We have since added a Insect-Screen door so we can keep the dogs and chickens out (neighbour chickens not ours!) yet have some ventilation.
Kitchen completed November 2019
The kitchen was completed in November 2019, it took three guys one month to do the job. It's a good size being just short of 20 square metres.
